Examining the Relationship Between Athletic Mental Energy and Performance Levels of Orienteering Athletes
Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the performance and mental energy levels of orienteering athletes. A total of 124 licensed orienteering athletes, 74 of whom were women "59.7%" and 50 of whom were men "40.3%", participated in the research voluntarily in orienteering competitions in the 2022-2023 season. In the research, relational design, one of the quantitative research methods, was used to explain the problem situation. "Athletic Mental Energy Inventory" and personal information form were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the data. Simple linear regression analysis was used to test the research hypotheses. Some basic assumptions were checked before performing regression analysis. The assumption of normality was checked based on descriptive statistics. As a result of the findings of the research, a negative significant relationship was found between the mental energy levels of orienteering athletes and their competition scores. Mental energy has a predictive effect on competition performance. Approximately 6% of the variability in competition performance was explained by the mental energy variable. In conclusion; Systematic and purposeful practices that will increase their mental energy in sports can positively contribute to the performance of orienteering athletes.
