Abstract

Year 2023, Volume: 7 Issue: 1, 49 - 58, 27.06.2023
https://doi.org/10.32706/tusbid.1293281

Abstract

Sports tourism is a rapidly expanding sector within the global tourism industry, with a current estimated value of $1.7 trillion. The host destination may benefit from economic benefits through the augmentation of tourist attendance and spending at sporting events. Major sports events, including the Olympics and World Cups, have been shown to have a positive impact on the sustainable economic development of tourist destinations. The present study employs a literature review methodology to elucidate the associations between sports tourism and sports events. This study implemented the traditional review method to investigate the influence of sport events on sport tourism. The analysis was based on a comprehensive examination of existing literature, utilising the keywords "sport tourism" and "sport events" in prominent databases such as Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus. Furthermore, the study explores contemporary academic research and pertinent concerns pertaining to the realm of sports tourism and sporting events. To summarise, tourism linked with sports events necessitates consideration of various factors such as quality management, travel motivations, partnerships, cultural exchange, and sustainable development to achieve favorable outcomes. Through meticulous strategizing and execution, sports tourism can yield favorable outcomes for both the tourism sector and the various communities and ecosystems it impacts.
